Bumi was born a nonbender, but he later gained bending abilities. He served as a commander in the United Forces, where his unorthodox tactics earned him great respect from his peers.

When Kya tried to locate Jinora by tracking her footprints, Bumi chided her for believing that such a tactic would work in the Spirit World.

What is Bumi’s profession before he retired?

Bumi worked as a fleet commander before he retired. He has excellent command and leadership skills. He also knows a lot about water bending and healing techniques.

During the war, Bumi helped in the fight against the Equalists and was critical of Kuvira’s draconian policies. He is not a powerful airbender, but he can still make a difference in the world.

Bumi occasionally displays his irresponsible side, such as when he claims to have survived three typhoons without using air lift. However, he usually shows a more mature side.

What is Bumi’s relationship with Aang?

Bumi is a caring and supportive friend to Aang. He often jokes with him and makes him laugh. He also loves to give Aang difficult tests. These trials may seem trivial, but they are actually life-threatening.

Bumi is a clever strategist and can often be underestimated by his enemies. He is able to think ahead and wait for the right moment to strike, a trait that helped him defeat Zaheer during the Hundred Year War.

He is also a skilled earthbender and has a knack for engineering. He once fashioned together a catapult to bypass defending sandbenders and reach a water source. This act was important because it demonstrated that nonbenders could be just as effective as bendingers.

What is Bumi’s relationship with Meelo?

Bumi is a fun-loving airbender with a flair for outrageous shenanigans. He has a gleeful sense of adventure and frequently impresses the new airbenders with his tales of heroism.

During the search for Korra, he bragged about defeating three typhoons, which irritated his brother. He later asked a girl if she had seen the Avatar, attempting to flatter her in a flirtatious way.

He and the other airbenders, including Ikki and Kya, later joined Tenzin at the Northern Air Temple for training. Meelo launched watermelons at them with his bending.
